Grid computing focuses traditionally on high perfomance computing, based on the concepts of cluster-building and resource sharing, by which grid systems are able to solve dataand comptutationally intensive tasks. Accordingly, typical applications include simulations in science, such as climate modeling. Over time, the scope of grid systems broadened in organizational and technical terms which lead to a number of key adaptations. One important aspect concerns the move from traditional grid computing towards service grids. Service grids include additionally virtualized, application field-specific services, providing for geographically and organizationally distributed service provisioning in a virtual organization (VO) [18].
